Warramate Hills Conservation Area
This reserve has been damaged over many years by mountain bike riders, who have built illegal trails through the reserve. The Friends of Warramate Hills have successfully lobbied Parks Victoria to notify users that mountain bike riding is permitted on the main vehicle track only, and are seeking to have the trails and their debris removed.
To their credit, most of the riders have now ceased visiting the park, and some vegetation is now re-establishing.
Community consultations are taking place with the YCACC to determine appropriate recreational uses for the YCA as a whole, and we look forward to further action by Parks Victoria to ensure this reserve is managed to protect flora and fauna, and permit passive recreation only. The Friends of Warramate Hills have also gathered signatures on a petition calling for action to protect this reserve, which will be sent to Minister Lily D'Ambrosio.
Endangered species recorded here recently include the Powerful Owl and Tree Goanna.
See below for information about the reserve including, the history of its proclamation.
